I often read on various affiliate marketing forums and sites like quora.com questions that ask what the best free affiliate marketing training programs are. The problem with these questions is that the people asking do not understand what being an affiliate marketer means.
So, with that thought in mind, I’m going to tell you why you should avoid the free affiliate marketing training. I’ll also give you my thoughts on what is the best online training worth doing.
Don’t have time to read this article or you’re at work? Want to cut to the chase? Then click this link for my #1 recommendation for the best affiliate marketing training on the net.
1. Free Affiliate Marketing Training Is a Lot of Hype
The problem with affiliate marketing training being free is that its main purpose is not to actually help you. It’s to get you to sign up. The training may be free. However, the moment you hand over your name and email address, you are an asset to the person who gave you the training.
If you are reading this, you have probably already come across a few dodgy affiliate marketing programs. You know the ones. You get some actor walking around ‘his’ mansion, telling you how only a couple of years ago he was homeless. But now he goes on holiday every month. Plus he lives in a beautiful house and has a gorgeous array of girlfriends.
How to Spot the Affiliate Marketing Hype
The sales letters and/or videos always follow the same pattern, are all about the same length, and are almost always bullshit. I know because I was the sucker who bought into almost all of them when I was just starting out.
I even bought into programs I was sure were 99% a waste of time and money. Why? Because I was always thinking, “This one will be different”. It never was, of course. But by then, you have got into the habit of buying stuff online. You end up not thinking things through and buy everything and anything you get offered.
2. Free Affiliate Marketing Is Free for a Reason
There is an old saying that I’m sure you have heard. “There is no such thing as a free lunch”. This is as true for affiliate marketing as it is for everything else in the world. The reason why people offer free affiliate marketing training is that they want you to buy a product, or more often, lots of products.
Now, there is nothing wrong with that. The whole point of affiliate marketing is to get people to buy things. You’ll often be persuaded to buy products that you will earn money from yourself when you get people to sign up under you. This is a classic type of affiliate marketing and there’s nothing wrong with that either, but when you’re just starting out, where are you going to find the people who’ll sign up under you?
You Don’t Want to Buy into Lots of Different Programs
The products being sold are often for programs you may need but will cost a lot of money. There are almost always cheaper, or even free programs, that will do the same thing. There are even affiliate marketing training programs that will include free products to replace the ones that cost a monthly subscription.
A lot of these programs are not even particularly expensive, but once you have paid for five or six of them, you suddenly realise that you are spending a couple of hundred bucks a month. And if you’re a newbie and have no money coming in, a couple of hundred bucks a month is not a small amount of money.
Why I am not in favour of this is because you are not being trained to become an affiliate marketer. You are being persuaded to sign up for paid programs and then told to get people to follow exactly what you did. Again, where are you going to find these people?
Normally, you’ll be told to run Solo Ads, which are another source of income for your ‘free’ affiliate marketing trainer. But Solo Ads are risky and you have no guarantee you’ll make sales. You don’t want to do Solo Ads till you know what you are doing. And you don’t know what you’re doing when you’re just starting out, trust me.
3. Affiliate Marketing Training Is a Step-by-Step Process
Finally, the secret to affiliate marketing training is that there really isn’t much of a secret. Affiliate marketing has pretty much stayed the same for years. The methods may have changed but the central strategies behind affiliate marketing are the same as they always were.
The trick is not to go for free affiliate marketing training but to pay. The reason why I recommend this is in two parts. Firstly, because you have paid for the program, the trainer(s) are not hoping to sell you more programs, they’re hoping you’ll succeed and become a professional affiliate marketer. Why? Well, that’s the second part.
A good affiliate marketing training program will offer you a money-back guarantee. That’s why your trainer wants you to succeed. If you don’t succeed, you’ll just ask for a refund, which is not just an inconvenience for the trainer, it may also affect their own success in affiliate marketing in the future.
What A Good Affiliate Training Program Is
Because of all the above, a good training program will take you through the steps of affiliate marketing. It will explain everything you need to know in a way that is clear and easy for you to understand.
All you then need to do is follow exactly what your trainer tells you to do. And you can be pretty sure that you’ll succeed. You’re following the exact same steps your trainer does for his own affiliate marketing.
