Still, no matter how good you are, you’ll have the same problems starting out like everyone else. So, in this article, I’m going to explain how to find freelance writing jobs for beginners.

Set Up a Blog

Start by setting up your own blog. As a freelance writer with no experience, this is an absolute must. There are many different opinions about what your blog should be called. I think that you should name your blog after yourself, so if your name is Cyril MacTavish, your blog would be called

blogging for money

Of course, if your name is John Smith, then I think you might find taken, so you could try or something like that. If you’re thinking of becoming a freelance writer, you should be intelligent enough to think of a good domain name.

Fiction or Non-Fiction

When you’re starting out looking for freelance writing jobs for beginners, you need to think about what types of work you’d like, fiction or non-fiction writing. If you are not overly bothered, either way, I would definitely think about opting for non-fiction. If you want to blog for other people, then non-fiction is the way to go because most affiliate marketers need non-fiction.

As a freelance writer with no experience, you may not be sure what you’re going to write about. If that’s the case, you should probably start looking at the evergreen niches for non-fiction writing. These are niches that never grow old and sell all year round; for example, health, keeping fit, saving money, and so on. Check out this list here for 150 evergreen niche ideas.

Mind you, if you are good at writing in the erotic or romance niche that might be quite a good idea. I see quite a lot of people looking for writers in those niches. However, you need to be pretty good if you want to concentrate on erotica or romance.

Choose a Niche

This is important. A lot of people don’t think about choosing a niche when they’re looking for freelance writing jobs for beginners. Whether you decided fiction or non-fiction writing, getting known in a particular niche will do you wonders. You have a few choices.

– A specific niche
– A broad niche
– Anything and Everything

So, a specific niche could be on ‘Dogs’ or even maybe a particular breed, ‘Pugs’ for example. A broad niche could be ‘Making Money Online’ or ‘Health and Fitness’. Anything and everything is what it says. There are pros and cons to each one.

I personally think that you should start off reasonable broad but not too broad. I wouldn’t write about anything and everything, but equally, I wouldn’t go to narrow. If you became known as someone who writes about pets, you could always narrow your niche to dogs or pugs at a future date.

If you are thinking that your fortes lie in fiction rather than non-fiction writing, then you need to give examples of the types of writing you can do, whether it be romance, erotica, and/or descriptive writing. Obviously, you don’t need to write entire stories, unless short stories are your thing.

Start Writing

Start writing so that you can use your blog as your portfolio. It’s not the same as having a portfolio on other websites, but it is better than nothing. When you are a freelance writer with no experience, anything’s better than nothing.

Since you’ve already decided what sort of writer you’re going to be, you should be writing on that niche. Try to do at least half-a-dozen posts before you start applying for jobs. You want to have something to show prospective clients.

Another tip that will help you when looking for freelance writing jobs for beginners is to try to get your headlines right the moment you start writing. There is an excellent tool to use, although when you try it, you’ll probably end up pulling your hair out. It’s called the Headline Analyzer, and you can find it here.

Tools for Freelance Writing Jobs for Beginners

If you want to be a professional freelance writer, you might want to get yourself a couple of tools. The first one I’d recommend is the Hemingway App. This is a perfect way to keep your writing simple. Believe it or not, most people read at a Grade 7 level, so you need to write at that level.

Another great app is Grammarly. Now, I should point out that it is not perfect. However, it’s a heck of a lot better having it than not having it. I consider myself pretty okay at writing, and yet I make about 60 mistakes per 1000 words.

Both of the apps above are paid. Hemingway is a one-off of about $20, and Grammarly is about $30 a month. While that does sound a little expensive, I would suggest you buy it immediately.

A lot of people prefer to wait till they’re getting money in, but I think that’s a mistake. If you’re looking for freelance writing jobs for beginners, you need to get ahead of the competition. Remember, every day people are trying to become You’re writing efforts need to be as good as possible as soon as possible. You’re also likely to get better reviews if your writing is of a higher quality.
