Time for my weekly update, which I really need to start calling my bi-weekly update. Mind you, since bi-weekly can mean twice a week or every two weeks, that’s not necessarily any better. Wow, that maybe my quickest ever digression, so let’s get back to the whole point of this post.
Added a New Category to My Blog
Firstly, I need to say is I’ve added a new service I’m offering on my blog, which is a Local Search Service. I’ve added this service because I noticed that while I was looking for things I needed in my new hometown, the local businesses were really bad at promoting themselves.
Anyway, I don’t want to go into too many details here about what it’s all about because this article isn’t meant to be about that. I’ll write about it all another time. So, let’s get back to the important stuff and my recent blog posts. Let’s start with articles posted since 15th July.
Blog Posts: 15th July - 31st July
So, apart from my new Local Search Services business, I haven’t added any new categories, which is probably a good thing as I don’t want to add too many categories. Now, let’s get to the Search Console Results and then I’m going to tell you where I have gone wrong with this blog.
Search Console Results
Right, so these are my results and as usual, I’m quite pleased with them, in general. I’m slowly inching up the average search results, which I’m happy about, but I still haven’t told you my bad news.
Total Clicks
Total Impressions
Average CTR
Average Position
Actually, I’m very pleased with the way things are going. Basically, in the last two weeks, my blog has moved up 11 places, which is one whole Google Search page.
Now, I know that moving up one entire page doesn’t sound too exciting, but think of it this way; the closer I get to page 3 of Google, the closer I will be to making some real money online.
On-Going Marketing Techniques
Now, as I said above, I’ve moved to a new place this month, which is an excuse for saying that I have done absolutely nothing about marketing. That begs a question. If I don’t do any marketing on Quora or Pinterest and my blog has still done quite well in Google Search Console, is doing all that extra marketing worthwhile?
I suppose the answer to that is ‘Yes’ but it is interesting that my blog has still done reasonably well. It goes to show that while other marketing is important, keeping to the basics will still yield results.
Promoting BitDegree Online Courses
In my last update, I mentioned that I’m promoting Udemy course. I’m also promoting BitDegree courses but that’s not a new category as this blog was originally set up with BitDegree Online Courses in mind.
I suppose that the best thing about having a blog called ‘Sskillz’ is that as long as I’m writing about anything ‘skills related’, I can write about anything I really want. However, the problem with changing the focus of a blog is what happened below.
The Major Problem I’m Having
Okay, as I promised, here is the big problem with my blog. In fact, the easiest way for me to show you the problem is if you look at the image below.
Now, as you can see, most of my results are coming from IELTS searches. When I first started my blog, I wanted it to be an online learning blog. However, I changed my mind and decided to make it a making money online blog.
So, the obvious problem is that people are coming to my blog to look at IELTS posts but I don’t want them to come to my blog for IELTS. Anyway, what I’ve done is started to delete the IELTS posts and redirect visitors to my Grammarly review [link] post.
I’m not sure what that is going to do to my overall progress and I’m not sure if Google will penalise me for redirecting people who want IELTS questions to Grammarly. Mind you, most of them need Grammarly too, so you never know your luck.
Summary
So, to summarise, I’m quite happy with my results. However, I’m a bit worried about how I’m going to refocus my traffic so that I’m getting the ‘right’ people visiting. Still, I’ll just keep plugging away at my content and hope for the best, which is what most people do anyway.
As always, if you want to avoid screwing up, it’s probably best if you check out Pathway to Passive Income. In fact, it’s called Pathway to Passive, but that always seems like an unfinished thought.
If you enjoyed this weekly update, leave a comment. And if you have anything interesting to add, please feel free to put that below too. Thanks and speak again soon.
