I love writing reviews, mainly because they are really not that difficult to do. You just try a piece of software, wear a pair of trainers, take a Udemy or BitDegree course, and then you write what you think of the software, trainers, or course. It ain’t exactly rocket surgery. So, let’s look at the process of writing reviews for affiliate marketing.
Why You Should Write Affiliate Reviews
Think about the last time you bought something unusual i.e. not a box of teabags or a pint of milk. What did you do? You may well have gone to Amazon and found a product that looked exactly like you were looking for.
And then what did you do? I bet you looked at how many stars it had and read a bunch of the comments. If you didn’t do that, I expect you asked around friends and family if anyone had bought an item that was similar or knew of a good product a friend had bought.
No matter what you did, I am pretty sure you didn’t go out and buy something completely blind; especially if it were expensive, without some form of checking before you shelled out your hard-earned cash. Now, imagine if you were the person people came to for advice.
Now, this does require effort, but if you have been coming to my blog for a while, you’ll know that it takes effort because you can see how often I publish a blog post. But as long as you’re prepared to put in a little bit of effort, you could be making some nice money in no time.
The 4 Steps to Writing Affiliate Reviews
First Step – Enroll in an affiliate program
There are lots of affiliate programs out there. Spend some time checking out good affiliate programs for the niche products you’re interested in.
Second Step – Write a compelling review
This is pretty much what it says on the tin. However, don’t worry about writing reviews yet; we’re going to look at that later.
Third Step – People read your review(s)
This is the most difficult part of the whole process. This is all about driving traffic, which you’re going to have to learn a lot about.
Fourth Step – Get paid a commission.
This is the easiest part of the entire process. Affiliate networks are pretty good these days and as long as you avoid the dodgier ones, getting paid won’t be a problem.
Of course, as always, the devil is in the detail. It sounds really easy but it isn’t quite as easy as it sounds. However, what is easy is following the formula of affiliate marketing. And we know that because the experts have told us what to do and all we have to do is do the same.
There are many reasons for writing good, honest and in-depth reviews. Obviously, there’s the money side of it, but there are some secondary reasons as well.
– Grow your visitor numbers
– Drive traffic using keywords
– Become a trusted expert
Your next problem is working out what you want to sell and whose products you’re going to promote. Of course, there are no rules here. You can do what you want. However, there are some things that you need to think about.
What Products to Review
There are three aspects of affiliate marketing that you need to consider when deciding what products you want to review,
– Your Interests
– Target audience
– The product
The general rule of thumb is that if you’re not interested in the product, you’re not going to do very well. The point is that no one sticks at something they are not interested in for very long and that’s just as true for affiliate marketing as for anything else in life.
Example of a Good Niche
So, let’s say you are interested in hiking. In fact, hiking is a really good interest because if you go hiking every weekend, you have something to write about and you can include lots of pictures.
Also, there are tons of different products you can promote and what’s particularly good about this is that you can buy the product and test it out yourself. Plus (again), you can take lots of photos of social proof.
And you could buy and wear a GoPro. If you do this, you now have a video you can stick up on YouTube. Video is a great way of driving traffic to your website. Just makes sure you do some editing first so it isn’t just hours of you walking up a hill.
Another very popular type of video review is when the reviewer buys something and the review starts from when the box is opened. It’s a kind of ‘first impressions’ review. They are very popular and will drive traffic to your site as well.
This is why your interests are so important. If you went hiking a few times in college 30 years ago, there is no way that you are going to be saying anything worth listening. If you haven’t hiked in years, you can hardly claim to be an authority, especially as you won’t have any proof that you are.
Why You Need to Maintain Authority
Authority is also important from what you decide to promote. If you’re selling hiking products and decide to promote something completely off-topic, how will that help you maintain your authority?
Don’t make the mistake of promoting something that has nothing to do with your niche just because the commission is high or your mate wants you to flog something for him. You’ll lose the respect of your readers and they’ll stop coming back.
Wrapping Everything Up
Right, now that you have some idea of what you need to think about when deciding on a niche, we now need to learn all about writing reviews for affiliate marketing. You may not be surprised that the rules for writing a review are pretty much set as well. Follow them and you won’t go far wrong.
